Tal Yatziv

My research interests focus on cognitive processes underlying parenting. In my research, under the joint supervision of Dr. Naama Atzaba-Poria (Child Developmental and Family Relationships lab) and Dr. Yoav Kessler (Working Memory lab), I examine the relations between parental mentalization (i.e., parents’ ability to reflect on their parenting and on their child's mental states) and parents’ executive functioning (i.e., general-purpose processes that enable goal directed behavior, including working memory, inhibition and task-set shifting). I examine these links among mothers and fathers of children born pre- and full-term, as part of a longitudinal study following these families from birth to preschool.
I am currently a Ph.D. student at the Department of Psychology, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. I received my BA in Psychology and Cognitive Sciences and MA in Experimental Psychology (Brain and Cognition) from Ben-Gurion University.

I am a PhD student in the Child Development and Family Studies Lab under the supervision of Dr. Naama Atzaba-Poria. I am interested in developmental processes following a dramtic family transition: the arrival of the second-born. My study will follow both normative as well as at-risk population, namely families subjected to chronic stress due to residence in an armed conflict zone of Gazza vicinity. The study will place great emphasis on the quality of parenting suggesting that parenting will play an important role in the family strength following a life-changing event of the birth of a second child. In addition, I suspect that growing in an armed conflict zone is a risk factor for children and parents and that parenting quality can moderate its effect as a resilience factor for adaptive development.

I received my BA in Psychology from Ben-Gurion University of the negev and completed my master's degree in developmental psychology at University of Haifa were I studied kindergarten environment as well as teacher and child reports about the child's self-concept
